Dr. Gary Edwards Birmingham, AL: Science and Art

Dr. Gary Edwards of Birmingham, AL says he decided to become a chiropractor after seeing first-hand how effective chiropractic care can be.

“My father…had been through the surgical route,” he recalls, “and it was a Doctor of Chiropractic that gave him his life back.” Deeply impressed by this personal experience, he went on to enroll in the Palmer College of Chiropractic after completing his undergraduate studies at the University of South Alabama. He received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in December of 1985, and has been in practice ever since.

The Palmer College of Chiropractic, located in Davenport, Iowa, is rated among the top five schools for Chiropractic in the United States. It also has campuses in Florida and California. Palmer offers students a Masters in in clinical research and a research honors program. “The philosophy of chiropractic is built upon the constructs of vitalism, holism, conservatism, naturalism and rationalism,” the school says on its website. “It provides context for the application of science and art.”

Central to chiropractic care is the idea of treating the cause of a condition, and not its effect. “I assist rather than intrude,” says Dr. Gary Edwards of Birmingham, AL. “To free rather than control.” He is a Fellow of the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedics and a Diplomate of the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists, and a member of the American Chiropractic Association.
